In the year 2353, an idea was proposed of the longest trip in Starfleet history. In 2370, the mission began. The USS Discovery. The most advanced ship in the whole fleet. With an experimental engine that should be able to hold Warp 9.95 safely. Supposed to, of course. The USS Discovery under the command of Captain John Richards set out on its 1000 year journey to voyage as far as possible, turning back towards Earth after the 500th year was over.
However, 50 years into the voyage, the USS Discovery lost a chain of subspace buoys that kept them in contact with Earth, making the ship lose all contact with Earth. However, the Discovery went on. And on. And on. After picking up several aliens in the Andromeda Galaxy and several generations after the original crew passed on, communication with Earth was reestablished, nearly 400 years after the Discovery departed from Earth. While Earth and the Federation were facing their own problems, the information that the Discovery passed onto Earth was greatly appreciated, especially since the Discovery was thought destroyed when communication was lost.
It is now the year 2869, 499 years after the first departure from Earth, and the Discovery is now reaching the fringes of the Triangulum Galaxy. Some are worried that they will be heading back this next year, and many do not even know what Earth is really like, and the Discovery is home enough. Others feel it is their mission to return back to Federation space. The decision is splitting the crew, who grew up together, apart. What will become of the Discovery? What will the Discovery do? Will it continue on? Or will it return back to Earth?
