Claire had never been very good at staying in one place for too long, learning had always been important to her so she had done a lot of different degrees and gone to different schools and colleges over the years but considering the last thing she wanted was for anyone to find out what she was, that made settling down somewhere very difficult. A few months after she was turned, her sire was killed by a pack of werewolves and she had almost died as well but somehow she had managed to escape. Ever since then she had been on her own, trying to find her place in the world and learn to control her bloodlust on her own. It hadn’t been easy and even now there were times when she struggled to stay in control but she was trying and she knew that had to count for something. She had originally been drawn to Mystic Falls when she had heard about all of the strange things that went on in the town but that wasn’t what had convinced her to stay.
To begin with she had enrolled herself in high school so that she could get a feel for the town and decide whether she wanted to try and make a home for herself there after such a long time of constantly being on the move but she hadn’t actually expected to find anything to make her want to stick around. Mystic Falls itself was fairly unremarkable aside from the fact that it seemed to be like a hub for supernatural activity but on her first day at school she had met someone who had made her feel something she hadn’t felt for a long time - hope. She wasn’t sure what it was about Jeremy Gilbert that had captured her interest but for some reason she had felt at ease around him straight away and that was something that she hadn’t experienced since she was human. It was a little scary but it had so far proved enough to pique her curiosity and for that reason she had stayed, knowing that she wanted to find out just what it was about the human boy that had drawn her to him in the first place.
Knowing that she needed to get a feel for the rest of her surroundings as well, considering it was the weekend Claire knew she might as well do a little exploring considering she didn’t have anything better to do with her time. She was up to date with her homework and she didn’t feel like heading to the library or exploring the town like she usually would have done, instead she felt like going somewhere a little different. For the most part she had kept to herself since arriving in the town but even in passing she had heard a few people mention the falls. They were supposed to be beautiful and from what she had heard it was usually quite quiet out there which seemed perfect for her. With that in mind the young woman followed the path down to the falls with a book in one hand and a towel in the other, her bathing suit underneath her clothes in case she decided to go swimming considering it seemed unusually warm that day. Reaching the pool at the base of the waterfall, a smile touched the vampire’s lips. What she had heard was right, it was beautiful out there and deserted too which was just what she had hoped for. Setting her towel down on the ground, Claire twisted her lapis lazuli bracelet subconsciously around her wrist for a moment before settling herself down on the towel and opening her book, knowing she could easily test the water later if she felt like it.
