The wizarding world is sitting at the brink of war, but not only because of Voldemort and his Death Eaters, but with the muggles as well. A Death Eater was caught killing a muggle using magic and there were too many witnesses for the Ministry to cover up. The news spread throughout the muggle community like wildfire. Instead of accepting the idea of magic and wizards, the muggles became fearful of anything magical. Magical people caught by the muggles would be sentenced to burn at a stake for all to see, and their trial would be far from fair, forcing the magical community further into hiding.
What makes matters worse is that Voldemort and his Death Eaters have been building an army and their plan is to take over the magical world. A prophecy was foretold that a boy would be born that would have the power to vanquish the Dark Lord forever. Fearing his own death, Voldemort planned to kill Harry Potter before he had the chance to grow up. His plan failed. Instead of killing Harry, he only managed to kill his father; Lily and Harry survived the killing curse. The love charm Lily cast at the last minute protected them from harm, and Voldemort's curse rebounded, causing the Dark Wizard to disappear without a trace. However, Voldemort did leave one thing behind inside of Harry that wasn't planned – a piece of himself that would become a part of Harry's fate.
